Bhubaneswar: Senior BJD leader and president of Biju Mahila Janata Dal, Snehangini Chhuria, has been named as the party candidate for the upcoming Nuapada by-election.
After thorough marathon discussions with senior leaders, party president Naveen Patnaik announced her name as the official BJD candidate for the Nuapada by-poll.
“I wish to declare that Snehangini Chhuria, a strong leader from western Odisha, who has served in our BJD ministry in the past and also served in many important portfolios. She always fought for the poor and downtrodden, and women in particular. We have concluded in our party that she will be the candidate from BJD for the by-elections in Nuapada,” Patnaik said.
Chhuria, a former Minister in the Naveen Patnaik cabinet, had been elected to the Assembly twice from the Atabira segment in 2014 and 2019.
She will face BJP’s Jay Dholakia and Congress nominee Ghasiram Majhi in the ensuing by-election.
