Bhubaneswar: Two Special Task Force (STF) jawans died while four were injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Bijapur district on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, late Wednesday night.
The deceased jawans have been identified as Chief Constable Bharat Lal Sahu and Constable Sater Singh. Jawans who sustained injuries due to the blasting are Purusottam Nag, Komal Yadav, Siyaram Sori and Sanjay Kumar.
Meanwhile, additional security forces have been sent, and injured jawans are being treated after the incident in the Terrem area of Dantewada.
According to sources, teams of Special Task Force STF, District Reserve Guard (DRG), (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) CoBRA, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were carrying out a special search operation in the district. The security forces were returning from the search operation when the blast took place.
Meanwhile, more security forces have been dispatched to the area, and necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the treatment of the injured STF jawans.
Earlier last month, two personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force’s jungle warfare unit CoBRA were killed when Naxalites detonated an IED targeting a truck in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh. In the encounter security forces killed a Naxalite and recovered weapons used in the attack.
