Nayagarh: Tension prevailed in both the Banpur hospital campus as well as the local police station today when the agitated family members of a man alleged custodial death and demanded compensation as well as legal action against the forest officials who had arrested him yesterday from a jungle on the charges of theft.
Seeking justice, the bereft kin staged a dharna (sit-in protest) first before the hospital and later in front of the local police station.
As per reports, a man was arrested yesterday by the forest patrolling team from Banpur’s Niladriprasad forest under Balugaon range. The accused has been identitifed as Balabhadra Behera of Golagaon village.
While in custody, he fell ill following which he was admitted to Banpur hospital where he succumbed to treatment. The bereft family members have alleged it to be a custodial death as the forest officials would have resorted to third degree after arresting Balabhadra.
