Nayagarh: Following the seizure of counterfeit currency notes amounting to Rs 1.25 lakh by the Town Police personnel today in the district headquarters town here, two accused, including a lawyer, has been apprehended.
Town PS IIC Jaydeep Mohanty told media, “Two persons went to the Yamaha show room of Utkal Automobiles here today. They consulted the sales counter for purchasing a bike and deposited cash. When the sales boys checked the cash, they discovered it to be fake notes. When they interrogated the two customers, they tried to flee. Being informed, we rushed there and rounded up.”
“Out of the Rs 1.30 lakh deposited, only Rs 5,000 was legal tender. The rest of the amount in Rs 500 denominations were fake notes. We seized them all from their possession. The accused hails from Koska in Khandapada area, but he resides in a rented house at Raja Bagicha area here in the town. Immediately we raided the house. We found there desktop, printer, paper, etc used in the crime. We have booked a case. Investigation is on. The complicity of another person is also being verified,” stated the IIC.
An employee of the show room said, “They had come as customers to our show room as usually we attend. He named himself as Dibya Ranjan Hota. On demand, he showed his Aadhar card photo copy. He told us to purchase a bike on cash payment. When he deposited the cash, the notes appeared to be forged ones. We intimated our BM and he sounded the police at once.”
