Nayagarh: A shocking incident has surfaced from Puania village under Khandapada police station in Nayagarh district, where a young woman has been accused of brutally murdering her husband, allegedly following prolonged marital discord and an alleged extramarital relationship.
The deceased has been identified as Alok Mahapatra, a resident of Puania village.
Alok was allegedly strangled to death by his wife while he was asleep. Local residents stated that the couple frequently quarrelled, and a heated argument reportedly took place between them late on Friday night.
Around 12:30 am, Alok Mahapatra was found dead inside the house. The couple had married only about six months ago. Alok had married Lucky, a woman from the Jatni police station area. The incident took a suspicious turn after the wife allegedly gave conflicting versions of the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death.
According to locals, she initially claimed that Alok had committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan. Later, on Saturday morning, she reportedly told others that he had died after consuming poison.
These contradictory statements triggered serious suspicion and created panic and outrage in the village. Upon receiving information, Khandapada police rushed to the spot, seized the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. A forensic team was also deployed to collect evidence from the scene.
Police have detained the accused wife, Lucky, and are interrogating her in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway to establish the exact cause of death and the sequence of events leading up to it.
Meanwhile, allegations have surfaced that Lucky often left her husband to stay at her parental home, leading to frequent disputes between the couple. Relatives of the deceased have alleged that the woman was involved in an extramarital affair and that this may have been the motive behind the murder. They have also claimed that Lucky had previously threatened to kill Alok.
The police said all angles, including murder, suicide, and poisoning, are being thoroughly examined, and further action will be taken based on forensic and post-mortem reports.
