Bhubaneswar: The Centre awarded the geographical indicator (GI) label to the well-known Nayagarh Kanteimundi Brinjal from Odisha. The Geographical Indications Registry has posted an advertisement on its website in this respect.
On behalf of the Neelamadhab Krushi Sangathan in Banapur, Khandapada Block, Nayagarh district, the Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT) submitted an application for the Kanteimundi Brinjal’s GI tag in 2021.
Brinjal from the Nayagarh Kanteimundi plant is a delectable vegetable that is covered with sharp thorns. It is spherical and green in hue, and it has more seeds per pound than other genotypes.
