Nayapalli Ladies Hostel Vandalism And Violence: 3 Arrested

Bhubaneswar: Nayapalli police have arrested three youths in connection with the vandalism and violence at Ugratara Ladies Hostel on May 5.

The accused identified as Sonu alias Sania Das (22), Pinku alias Sashikanta Bhoi (20) and Sanjaya Behera (37) all hailing from Bhoi Sahi under Nayapalli police limits have been forwarded to court today, said an official press release issued by the DCP’s office here today.

The release said that the arrests were made on the basis of a complaint filed by the owner of Ugratara Ladies Hostel at the Nayapalli police station on May 5 and subsequent investigation thereupon.

Notably, on May 5 evening, the owner of the ladies’ hostel was standing with her scooter parked in front of the hostel, and the accused persons Sonu, Pinku, and Sanjaya pelted stones at her. After 2-3 stones hit the ladies’ hostel owner and her friend, they protested and confronted the accused persons. Enraged, the accused persons called their associates to the spot, hurled abuses, and attacked the hostel owner and her friend.

The accused persons then forcibly entered the hostel’s premises with stones and other articles and abused the hostel inmates in foul language and threatened them with their lives.

The accused persons’ smashed window panes and damaged other articles inside the hostel premises.

Following the registration of a complaint in this regard at the Nayapalli police station, the police after conducting a thorough investigation from different angles and on the basis of reliable information arrested the accused persons and brought them to the police station.

During the course of its investigation, the police found that the accused persons were known anti-socials of the locality and used to regularly gather near the ladies’ hostel and consume liquor, brown sugar and ganja. They used to pass lewd remarks to the inmates of the hostel.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
