Bhubaneswar:  The Odisha Transport Department has joined hands with the National Cadet Corps (NCC) to provide first aid treatment to road accident victims across the state. As per an MoU signed in this regard at the Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, NCC cadets will be deployed as ‘Junior Rakshak’ in the state and they will provide first aid to road accident victims in Odisha.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik addressed the event via video-conferencing on Wednesday.

In the first phase, the Transport Department will train around 62,000 NCC cadets to save the lives of those injured in road accidents acting as first responders and providing them first aid. The training will be conducted at various NCC camps across Odisha.

According to the MoU, the Transport Department has set a target of training around 20,000 NCC cadets every year.

It is worth mentioning that the Chief Minister launched the ‘Rakshak’ programme in 2021 to save the lives of road accident victims within the ‘golden hour’ by providing first aid and transporting the victims to the nearest hospital.

So far, more than 12,000 first responders have been trained across Odisha.
