**Bhubaneswar:** National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) Chairman Rameswar Oraon reached Odisha on Tuesday afternoon for his scheduled visit to the incident site in Kandhamal for an on-the-spot probe into the killings of five innocent tribals during the anti-Maoist operations launched by security personnel on July 8 night.
The NCST Chairman will also hold talks with the state police and government officials at the state capital after returning from the spot and submit its report to the Union Tribal Affairs Ministry.
Talking to media after landing at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here, Oraon said that he would visit the spot, interact with the victims, kin of the killed tribals and also hold talks with the state officials.
On the other hand, teams of both ruling BJD and opposition BJP also visited Kandhamal on Tuesday separately.
A 10-member BJP team led by Odisha BJP president Basant Panda reached Phulbani, the district headquarters of Kandhamal, and left for the spot. BJP national secretary Suresh Pujari also joined them at the spot of the tragic incident.
Similarly, the BJD team, comprising Odisha ministers Ramesh Majhi, Sudam Marandi and Snehangini Chhuria and former MP Bhupinder Singh, also visited Kandhamal on Tuesday.
Coming down heavily on the ruling BJD Government, Leader of Opposition Narasingh Mishra held Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik solely responsible and accountable for the tragic incident.
Castigating the CM’s announcement of SIT probe headed by an ADG of Odisha Police, Mishra questioned its legal credentials saying sans FIR lodged against anyone in the crime, how an investigation can be initiated.
Demanding a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe under the auspices of either High Court or Supreme Court, he mocked at the SIT formed under the State Police Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) that would ironically probe impartially and fairly against the errant police officials responsible for the killing of the innocent tribals.
The Leader of Opposition also informed that the Congress Legislature Party would also visit the spot in Kandhamal on July 15.
On the other hand, DGP K.B. Singh told media that the SIT will begin its probe headed by HRPC ADG Mahendra Pratap soon.
Meanwhile, BJP national President Amit Shah has also formed a three-member BJP Parliamentary committee to visit Kandhamal.
Need to be mentioned that, five innocent tribals including three women and one one-and-half-year old girl were killed in the crossfire between the security personnel and Maoists on July 8 night in remote rural pocket of Gumudumaha under Baliguda police station limits in tribal-dominated Kandhamal district when the victims were passing by the forest road in an auto-rickshaw.
