Cuttack: National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Rekha Sharma today batted for CBI inquiry in the Mamita Meher murder case in view of several points emerging out after filing of charge sheet in the case,
“Since several points have emerged after the filing of charge sheet in the Mamita Meher murder case it should be handed over to the CBI,” said Sharma speaking to reporters here after meeting Odisha DGP Sunil Bansal.
Sharma stated that she proposed the DGP to relook into the case if there were any shortcomings in the interrogation and if anyone more was needed to be interrogated.
“Though I was told that the matter is sub judice since charge sheet has been filed, I told him that points in the charge sheet can be changed or included in the case if he feels there are some shortcomings in the interrogation or if someone has not been interrogated. I proposed that there is a need to relook into the case. I told him that if he is having some problem in the investigation he can also recommend the State to hand over the case to CBI,” the NCW Chairperson said.
Sharma said that while she doesn’t expect much from the State since the police are under the Home Minister but is still hopeful that her proposal will prevail.
