Kendrapara: In a shocking incident, a villager of Pattamundi Bantapatna area of Odisha’s Kendrapara district was killed by his neighbour on Tuesday for allegedly practicing witchcraft.
The victim has been identified as Mani Charan Sahu (55) of Harnabebi village under Pattamundai block in Bantopatna.
According to reports, Mani Charan Sahu was asleep when his neighbour Aju Maharana and his two sons Bipini Maharana and Gunua Maharana broke into his house and repeatedly attacked him with sharp weapons in the middle of the night. Aju believed that Mani Charan practiced black magic.
As a result, Mani Charan was seriously injured in the attack and fell unconscious. When his family members learned about the gruesome incident, they first took him to the Pattamundai community health center. Later, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated. However, doctors at the SCB declared Mani Chanran brought dead.
The victim’s family has lodged a complaint at the Pattamundi rural police station accusing Aju and his sons of killing Mani Charan. The police have sent the body for post-mortem and launched an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the incident has created a stir in the entire district.
