Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar after a girl student was found dead at the hostel campus, last night.
The deceased B.Tech third-year student from Nepal is alleged to have committed suicide.
The circumstances surrounding her death are still unclear, but preliminary investigations suggest that a soured relationship with a fellow student led her to take the extreme step.
According to sources, the deceased was reportedly in a three-year relationship with a mechanical engineering student at the same university. However, things took a turn for the worse when the boy received a job offer and relocated, leading to a misunderstanding between the two.
The incident has sparked outrage among the students, with many taking to the streets to demand justice for the deceased student. Irate students blocked roads near the campus and called for the arrest of the deceased’s boyfriend.
To manage the volatile situation and restore order, police forces were swiftly deployed to the KIIT University campus.
As of the latest report, two platoons of police personnel have been deployed at the scene to pacify the agitated students.
On the other hand, police seized the body and sent it for autopsy at the Capital Hospital.
The university has also informed the student’s parents about the tragic incident, and they are expected to arrive soon.
