New Cuttack Collector, New CMC Commissioner To Focus On Water-Logging, Drainage Issues

Cuttack: Soon after assuming office, Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner Ananya Das said their prime focus will be to resolve the water-logging and perennial drainage problem of the Millennium city.

“In view of ongoing monsoon, presently my prime focus will be to initiate measures for tackling the water-logging issues of Cuttack city and the suspected flash floods at various parts of the district,” said Chayani.

For quick disposal of public grievances, Chayani proposed of setting up three grievance cells in the district. Within the monsoon season, for next three months, grievances related to natural calamity and water logging will be heard by the Collector personally.

Other grievances will be divided between the two ADMs and all the cells will function at a particular time daily as resolving public issues is a major responsibility of the Collector and his associates, said Chayani.

Though Chayani said he can’t comment on the status of integrated sanitation improvement project funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at present, he assured to look into the matter and take action accordingly.

Das also said that the prime focus of her office will be to deal with the water- logging and overflowing drains in the city. Besides, she will try to follow the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) regarding sanitation.

She even assured to follow up with JICA to find out the reason behind delay of the project and try to complete it as soon as possible. The CMC will now follow a clean and transparent system with focus on citizen centric services, she added.

“A city is as great as its people, we will keep the people in focus and with their support try to complete our projects and solve Cuttack’s problems,” said Das.
