Bhubaneswar: A day after a newborn was found abandoned at the Giringaput cremation ground under Chandaka police station limits, the mother of the child who happens to be a minor was rescued and the accused who had sexually abused her was arrested.
On Saturday morning, a local woman found the baby boy abandoned at the Giringaput cremation ground. She rescued it and handed it over to the police. After the rescue, the baby was produced before the Addl. CWC, Bhubaneswar and was placed at Subhadra Mahatab Seva Sadan, Kolathia.
Later in the day, Childline reported that a 16-year-old girl and her family claimed that it was her baby. Based on the information from Childline, Chandaka Police was able to identify the minor mother.
After she filed an FIR of sexual abuse, her complaint was registered u/s 6 of POCSO Act and the accused boy was arrested on Sunday.
By order of Addl. CWC, Bhubaneswar, the girl was rescued and kept with her baby at Subhadra Mahatab Seva Sadan. She also received medical treatment. Meanwhile, the condition of the baby is stated to be normal.
