Bhubaneswar: In a swift operation, the Titlagarh police, along with the Paikmal police and the District Child Protection Officer, rescued a newborn baby girl who was sold by her parents from Paikamal in Bargarh district.
According to reports, the biological parents, Neel Rana and Kanak Rana, residents of Bagader village under Titlagarh police limits, had been facing financial difficulties and were struggling to make ends meet.
Neel had three daughters from his first wife. However, due to marital discord, his first wife left him and returned to her parental home. After marrying his second wife, Kanak, they had a daughter. They allegedly decided to sell their child due to poverty. However, their plan was foiled when the authorities received a tip-off and intervened to rescue the baby.
During interrogation, Neel and Kanak have admitted to selling their second daughter for Rs 20,000.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sale and are working to ensure that the child receives the care and protection she deserves.
