Bhubaneswar: The newly appointed women leader of Biju Mahila Janata Dal, women wing of BJD, today met party president Naveen Patnaik at his residence, seeking his blessings and advice.

Snehangini Chhuria, the newly appointed president of Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD), along with party leaders including MP Sulata Deo and Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das, met Patnaik and expressed gratitude for his faith and trust in them.

The women leaders vowed to fight for the rights of women. Chhuria alleged that the BJP government has deceived women, citing a surge in crimes against them. She claimed that over 4,000 rape cases have been reported in Odisha in the last 15 months, making women feel unsafe.

“Women are becoming increasingly vulnerable, and cases of harassment and rape are on the rise,” she said. “Starting from educational institutions to tourist destinations, women are not safe anywhere. Mothers are afraid to leave their homes due to lack of justice.”

The BMJD president vowed to protect women’s rights and dignity, emphasising that the party has empowered women through initiatives like Mission Shakti. “Under Naveen Patnaik’s leadership, 70 lakh women were empowered economically and socially,” she said. Chhuria alleged that the BJP government is trying to undermine Mission Shakti and deceive women with promises like Subhadra Yojana.

The BMJD has decided to fight for women’s rights and privileges, holding joint press conferences against the state government’s anti-women approach. The party leaders are determined to work together to address the pressing issues affecting women’s safety and dignity in Odisha.
