Puri: In a tragic incident, a newly wed woman was found dead at her in-laws’ house in Gadakharada village in Puri district.
According to reports, the victim, Laxmipriya Sahu had eloped with his boyfriend Batu Pradhan. Later, both were married in a vedic ceremony a few days ago with the consent of both families.
Laxmipriya’s family alleged Batu was in a relationship with the girl for 10 months. However, after the marriage, Laxmipriya’s family received news that she had hanged herself at her in-laws’ house.
Upon reaching the in-laws’ house, Laxmipriya’s family found her body with facial injuries and bleeding. Laxmipriya’s mother-in-law was the only person present at the house. The family, along with the police, took the body to Puri District Headquarters Hospital for an autopsy.
“Their family members had quarrelled with our daughter. She was subjected to torture. When we arrived at their home, no one except her mother-in-law was present. She has not committed suicide. Her in-law members murdered her,” the deceased’s uncle said.
The circumstances surrounding Laxmipriya’s death have raised suspicions among the locals, who believe that it may not be a case of suicide but murder. The absence of Laxmipriya’s in-laws at the hospital until the body was taken for cremation has further fueled the speculation.
The case is currently under investigation, and the police are investigating to determine the exact cause of her death.
