Bhubaneswar: Concerned over a minor girl’s childbirth during her board examination, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has slapped a notice on the Jajpur Superintendent of Police.
The rights body has sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) within four weeks from the Jajpur SP, following a petition filed by human rights activist and Orissa High Court Advocate Mr. Akhand.
According to the petitioner, the minor girl gave birth to a baby while appearing for her Board examinations on February 26, 2025. The girl, a student of Panchayat High School, Rampur, complained of severe abdominal pain and rushed to Bari Government Hospital, where she delivered a child.
The petitioner alleged gross negligence by school authorities, Anganwadi staff, and the local administration for failing to notice the pregnancy, which suggests a possible case of sexual abuse under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The petitioner demanded action against those responsible, rehabilitation for the victim, and preventive measures in schools.
