Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the State Government over the death of a first-year MBBS student in Bhima Bhoi Medical College at Bolangir. The NHRC on Wednesday issued a notice to the Chief Secretary and the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Sambalpur University.
In the notice, the Commission has sought a detailed report of the death within a month. The student, a native of Haryana, Nishant Kumar reportedly died after falling off the hostel roof on April 22. However, his parents alleged he was a victim of ragging. The Dean of the medical college Sabita Mohapatra on April 22 dismissed the ragging allegations.
