NIA Moves Jeypore SDJM Court To Interrogate Top Maoist Dubashi Shankar

Jeypore: A two-member team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) today moved a prayer before the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court here to interrogate top Maoist leader Dubashi Shankar alias Arun.

Speaking to reporters, Public Prosecutor In-Charge of Koraput Sailaja Patnaik has informed that the NIA’s plea is under examination of the court.

In 2012, a Commandant and an Assistant Commandant and two jawans of the BSF team were killed on the spot and two others were seriously injured in an IED blast and firing by Maoists while they were travelling in a Bolero to conduct anti-Naxal operations in Malkangiri district’s Chitrakonda.

The NIA has taken over the case for investigation. It is in this connection the NIA team arrived here today and sought permission from the SDJM Court to interrogate Dubashi Shankar.

Maoist leader Dubashi Shankar alias Arun was captured by the police in September this year from the remote Ramgiri area near Baipariguda in Koraput district.

Dubashi Shankar was carrying a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh on his head. He was involved in several cases of Maoist violence in Koraput and Malkangiri districts. He was actively involved in Maoist activities since 1987.

He has 32 police cases against him in Andhra Pradesh, 24 cases in Telangana, 17 in Malkangiri and 4 in Koraput.
