Bhubaneswar: Night temperature plummeted to 4.8°C, the lowest this season, while 15 cities recorded temperatures below 10°C on Monday. According to the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Daringbadi in Kandhmal district was the coldest place in the state recording 4.8°C on Monday.
Snowfall was reported in several regions including Koida in Sundargarh, Similipal sanctuary in Mayurbhanj, and Raikia in Kandhamal. The continuous cold spell produced an unusual sight in places like Tensa, Kalta, Malda, and Kasira near Koida of Sundargarh district where a thick layer of frost and fog felt like snowfall.
Dense fog affected visibility in Koraput and Kandhamal due to cold wave in Odisha. The weather office has issued a yellow alert in these regions.
Even as Odisha continues to reel under a severe cold wave, the IMD has forecast a rise in night temperature across the state from Tuesday night under the influence of a fresh low pressure area (LoPAR) in southwest Bay of Bengal.
According to the weather office, the night temperature will increase by 3°C to 5°C from Wednesday bringing some relief from the severe cold wave. At the same time, some places in the state may experience light rain due to the LoPAR in Bay of Bengal.
