Puri: The annual sojourn of Lord Jagannath and His siblings concluded today with the Niladri Bije ritual as the deities were ushered to the sanctum sanctorum of the Srimandir in ‘Goti Pahandi’ by the servitors.
The ‘Pahandi’ started at around 4.30 PM with the idols of Ramakrishna and Madana Mohana first taken inside Srimandir followed by Lord Sudarshan. Subsequently, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra were carried into the sanctum sanctorum of the Srimandir.
Following this, Lord Jagannath was escorted to ‘Bheta Mandap’ in the ceremonial Pahandi where He met Goddess Laxmi and offered Rasagolas to her. It is believed that the Mahaprabhu offers the sweet to appease Goddess Laxmi, as she was upset after being left alone at the Srimandir
After completion of the ritual, Lord Jagannath was escorted to the Ratna Singhasan where he joined his siblings. Though devotees have been barred to enter Puri in view of COVID-19 pandemic, they were able to witness the deities return to the temple on their television sets or smartphones.
