Bhubaneswar: Nilagiri MLA Sukanta Kumar Nayak resigned from the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday.

The Nilagiri legislator tendered his resignation letter to Odisha BJP President Manmohan Samal.

According to sources, Nayak was elected to the State Legislative Assembly from Nilagiri Constituency in Balasore district on a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ticket in 2014. He had joined the BJP in 2019 after not getting a ticket from the ruling BJD. He, however, managed to retain the seat in the 2019 Assembly Elections on a BJP ticket.

There are speculations that he is likely to return to the BJD ahead of the 2024 Elections.
