**Kolkata: ** A short documentary film highlighting the steel resolve of the Dongria Kondh tribe fighting against the mining in Niyamgiri Hills, their abode will be screened at the 24th Kolkata International Film Festival of India 2018 in the Documentary Section. This film has been made by Surya Shankar Dash, a Bhubaneswar based filmmaker.
A 10-minute film, it was first screened at the 1st International Indigenous Film Festival of Bali, Indonesia, January 2018, then at the 1st Kalimantan International Film Festival, September 2018.
It features the fierce opposition of the Dongria Kondh indigenous Adivasi community against the Vedanta Aluminiun project on the sacred land, Niyamgiri hills, whose rare ecology is of paramount importance to the survival of mankind.
The short film uses footage of Niyamgiri from various sources spanning ten years, and follows young members of the community who have grown up to take the mantle of activism but are now in the line of fire. The spirit of activism and resistance against destruction of nature carries on from one generation to the other, as a legacy of ancestral Adivasi wisdom.
