Bhubaneswar: The National Law University, Odisha (NLUO) in Cuttack on Saturday approved 25 per cent reservation to students of Odisha for admission to Undergraduate and Post-Graduate courses.
“The General Council of NLU Odisha in its Special Meeting held on 04 January 2020 approved the 25% horizontal reservation to domicile of state of Odisha across categories for the admission to Undergraduate and Post-graduate programmes at National Law University Odisha,” read a notification from the varsity.
The eligibility criteria approved by the Council for claiming the reservation are as follows:
Undergraduate Programme: Candidates who have passed 12th class or equivalent examination from the state of Odisha and secured at least 60% marks (or its equivalent grade) in the said examination from any recognized College/University in the state of Odisha.
Postgraduate Programme: Candidates who have passed Undergraduate law programme (B.A.LL.B.,/B.B.A.LL.B.,/LL.B. etc) or equivalent examination and secured at least 50 % marks (or its equivalent grade) in the said examination from any recognized College/University in the state of Odisha.
However, the notification also stated that the above-mentioned reservation will be subject to CLAT score.
The decision was taken in response to a letter of the Higher Education Department requesting the NLUO to enable 25 per cent reservation for domicile students.
In the letter to the Vice Chancellor of NLUO, Commissioner cum Secretary of Higher Education Department, Saswat Mishra, had stated that students who have passed 12th class or equivalent examination from the State of Odisha shall be eligible for claiming reservation for admission under the state domicile quota.
Therefore, he had asked the VC to work out the necessary modalities so as to enable the students of Odisha to avail 25 per cent domicile reservation for taking admission in the NLUO from the coming academic session.
