Bhubaneswar: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 200 MBBS seats for two newly established government medical colleges in Odisha.

The Government Medical College, Phulbani, and the Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Government Medical College, Talcher, have each received approval for 100 seats. Academic sessions at both institutions will begin from the 2025–26 academic year.

Welcoming the development, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the approval marks a major milestone in the state’s health education sector. He noted that with the addition of 200 MBBS seats, more Odia students will now get the opportunity to pursue medical education from this year itself.

Highlighting the government’s focus on strengthening healthcare infrastructure, the Chief Minister said that the approval stands as recognition of the state’s efforts to improve both healthcare services and medical education.
