No Action Yet On The ‘Hooligan’ IIC Who Thrashed Journalist In Hospital
**Bhubaneswar**: In the latest development in the case of the IIC who hurled abuses and thrashed a journalist inside hospital, both the IIC and the journalist recorded their respective statements with the police.
According to DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, “A case has been registered with us and both the complainant and the accused have recorded their statements. An additional DCP has been entrusted with the enquiry of this incident. He is investigating the relevant papers and will soon submit an enquiry report.”
Notably, IIC of TalabaniaPS Ramakant Patra had thrashed a news reporter in Capital Hospital of Bhubaneswar which sparked widespread protest among the media fraternity of Odisha. The Puri SP immediately transferred the cop as a ‘punishment’ for his ruffian activity.
Enraged journalists of Puri even submitted a memorandum to Addl SP demanding his immediate dismissal and arrest of the ‘hooligan’ IIC. The Bhubaneswar media fraternity met Home Secretary Asit Tripathy and demanded action against Patra.
Even DGP R.P Sharma said to OMMCOM NEWS that he will he will review Bhubaneswar DCP Bhoi’s report on the act of former IIC of Talabania and assured strict disciplinary action against the erring official.
Notably, the ruffian IIC cop, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, hurled abuses on the scribe and even went on to break the latter’s mobile phone into pieces when he went to cover the news of an accident in which the IIC had got hurt.
In a vulgar display of authority and power, Patra sprang from a wheelchair and rained blows and kicks on the reporter, Subhakant Padhiary.
The entire episode, which unfurled on the premises of Capital Hospital was recorded by Padhiary’s colleagues who rescued the him to safety. He has filed a case at Capital Police station against Patra.
