Bhubaneswar: The Sessions Court postponed the hearing of bail petition of Manoj Nayak to October 27 until post mortem and station diary is submitted.
Manoj Nayak is the founder of Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) and SUM Hospital where 27 patients have died so far due to fire tragedy.
SN Das, Defence Counsel said, “The prosecution was supposed to submit the Case Diary today but was unable to do so. The Court has ordered them to submit the Case Diary along with post mortem report by coming Thursday after which hearing of bail application will be done.”
Notably, 27 people lost their lives in the Sum Hospital fire mishap that occurred on 17th of October. The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Twin City Commissionerate Police had issued a look-out circular (LOC) against Manoj Nayak after which he (Manoj) surrendered before the Khandagiri Police on 20th of October at around 3:30 am.
Nayak was sent on a two-day remand to Jharpada jail after being produced before the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court.
On October 22, Nayak was again produced before the SDJM Court after his two-day remand period was over as Commissionerate Police did not seek any further remand; he was sent back to jail.
Following the arrest of Sum Hospital’s owner, hundred of his supporters, including women, protested before the police station. They demanded his release arguing that Manoj Nayak has done a lot of philanthropic works in Odisha.
