Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik decided to forego his birthday celebrations this year owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. Odisha’s five-time CM will turn 75 on Friday.
Announcing his decision, Naveen said that he is forever grateful for all the love and blessings that he has received from the people of Odisha. “We have been going through difficult times since the last eight months because of Covid,” said the CM.
Naveen urged people to help the impoverished and donate blood and plasma to the needy to mark his birthday instead of any kind of celebrations.
Notably, last year too the Chief Minister had decided not to celebrate his birthday in view of the largescale devastation and suffering inflicted on the people by cyclone Fani, and due to cyclone Titli the year prior to that.
Naveen has always kept his birthdays a low-key affair during his two-decade-long political career. He had not celebrated his birthdays in 2013 and 2014 to express solidarity with the people affected by cyclones Phailin and Hud Hud.
He had also not celebrated his birthday in 2016 as a mark of respect to the martyr jawans who laid down their lives fighting against terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
