Bhubaneswar: Keeping in view the declining trend of Covid-19, the State Election Commission (SEC), Odisha has not imposed any restrictions for the ensuing election to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
Addressing a presser on Monday, State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi informed that there will be no Covid-19 restriction for the upcoming polls but the Commission may further revise its decision if the cases rise.
The nominations can be filed till 3 PM today. The scrutiny of nominations will be done on March 9. The polling will be held on March 24 with the counting of votes and declaration of results on March 26.
Over 27 lakh voters will be exercising their franchise at 3,030 booths under 1731 wards in 106 Municipalities/NACs. Similarly, over 14.26 lakh voters will be exercising their franchise at 1407 booths under 168 wards in three Municipal Corporations.
As Mayor and Chairperson election will be held directly for the first time in the State, two EVMs will be used in separate compartments at each booth. One for Councillor/Corporator and the other for Chairperson/Mayor.
In view of this, there will be one Presiding Officer and three Polling Officers at each booth.
There will be three strong rooms, one to store EVMs of Councillor/Corporator, the other to store EVMs of Chairperson/Mayor, and the third to store reserved EVMs.
