Bhubaneswar: “There is no flood situation in any river,” clarified Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department, Chandrasekhar Padhi on Monday, even as water levels at Mundali showed signs of receding.
Padhi said the peak outflow from Mundali recorded between 3 PM and 7 PM on Saturday had reduced from 6.26 lakh cusecs to 4.58 lakh cusecs by Sunday.
While floodwater is entering low-lying areas of Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts, he maintained that the situation remains under control.
The Chief Engineer warned that areas along the river banks may face some impact. He further explained that due to the full moon, high tides in the sea are affecting drainage of floodwater, though the accumulated water in low-lying regions will gradually recede.
In the last 24 hours, only six blocks have recorded more than 50 mm of rainfall, and rainfall activity has not created any critical situation in river basins.
Currently, floodwater is being discharged through four gates at Hirakud dam, while all gates at Rengali dam remain closed.
Officials said further decisions will be taken depending on real-time conditions.
