Bhubaneswar: In a bid to preserve the cultural integrity of the Khandagiri Mela, authorities have decided to impose a ban on obscene dance performances during the upcoming Jatra shows.
This decision was made following a meeting between members of the Jatra committee and Khandagiri police officials on Tuesday.
According to reports, numerous complaints were received regarding dance performances deemed disrespectful to Odia culture, prompting the authorities to take action. The new guidelines aim to ensure that the event maintains its cultural decorum.
A member of the Sanatan Seba Samiti, who attended the meeting, stated, “In the presence of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Inspector-in-Charge (IIC), Jatra committee members, and organizing committee representatives, it was unanimously decided to impose a ban on vulgar dance performances during this year’s Khandagiri Mela. The meeting also focused on organizing the fair in a disciplined manner.”
Another committee member added, “During the meeting, it was discussed that a central committee would be formed to oversee the event. Each Jatra organization will designate two members to join the committee. We have all agreed to uphold the decision to refrain from obscene dance performances this year. The formation of the central committee will take place tomorrow at 7 pm and all organizations are on board with this initiative.”
