Bhubaneswar: It was a sweltering hot day in Odisha today as the maximum temperature soared 40 degrees Celsius and above in 18 towns.
High humidity added to the plight of the citizens.
According to data shared by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), 9 places out of the aforementioned 18 places recorded a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius and above.
Sonepur in the western part of the State was the hottest and recorded a maximum temperature of 43.3 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has warned that day temperature at several places will remain 3 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal for another 24 hours.
After 24 hours, the day temperature will drop by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius, the IMD added.
