Bhubaneswar: If the latest forecast of the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) is any indication, heat wave conditions are likely to continue in Odisha for another five days.
In the latest bulletin issued on Thursday morning, the IMD said that a major change in day temperature (maximum temperature) is unlikely during the next four to five days. As a result, heat wave conditions and discomfort will continue.
After a drop in day temperature for two days, Bhubaneswar recorded 41°C at 11.30 am on Thursday. “Coastal Odisha is likely to experience a significant rise in temperature on Thursday as the dry and hot air from the west and north-west blowing over the state is more active than in the last two days,” IMD tweeted.
However, the IMD said that the day temperature in many parts of western Odisha has dropped slightly due to the influence of Nor’wester. Issuing a yellow warning for the next two days, the weather office predicted that heat wave conditions will continue to prevail in western Odisha during this period.
As per the forecast of the IMD, hot weather will prevail in Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sonepur, and Bolangir districts and these districts are likely to record temperatures above 40°C. The night temperature will also remain 4°C -5°C above normal.
“There will be no change in temperature in the next four to five days. But, there will be an improvement in the heat wave situation thereafter,” said the IMD.
