Bhubaneswar: There seems to be no respite from prevailing weather conditions with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing yellow warning of thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall activity over the few coastal districts of Odisha during the next 24 hours.
The weather conditions are likely to prevail in some parts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarah, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Kandhamal districts.
The IMD has advised people to keep watch on weather conditions and take safe shelter during thunderstorms and lightning. It has also advised urban dwellers to follow traffic advisories.
It is pertinent to note that Khordha, Nayagarh, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Ganjam and Kandhamal districts apart from twin cities experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty wind under the influence of ‘Kalabaisakhi’.
Odisha has ordered two lightning deaths on Tuesday.
According to sources, a 30-year-old youth died today due to a lightning strike in Jhanjimunda village under Sadar police station in Nuapada district.
In a separate incident, a youth died while his sister was seriously injured in a lightning strike in a forest near Subarnagiri village under Kotagarh police limits in Kandhamal district on Tuesday.
