Bhubaneswar: Devotees will be barred from entering the Shree Gundicha temple in Puri to have a darshan of Lord Jagannath and his siblings after 6 pm today. The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has announced that the Gundicha Temple in Puri will be closed to devotees from 6 PM to facilitate the smooth organisation of rituals and preparations for the sibling deities’ Bahuda Yatra, scheduled to be held on July 5.
The Gundicha Temple’s Singh Dwar (Lion’s Gate) will be closed to the public from 6 PM today to allow for the ceremonial cleansing (Shodha) and other important rituals ahead of the sibling deities’ return journey.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration has requested devotees to consider this restriction as part of their service to Mahaprabhu and cooperate with the temple authorities.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration announced on its X handle stating that “On the occasion of ‘Sandhya Darshan’ on Friday, 4th July 2025, public entry at the Singhadwar (Lion’s Gate) of Shree Gundicha Temple will remain closed from 6:00 PM onwards. This arrangement is being made because of the necessary rituals and detailed preparations to be conducted ahead of the auspicious Bahuda Yatra of the Deities.”
“After the prescribed time, the ceremonial cleansing (Shodha) of Shree Gundicha Temple will be performed, followed by several important rituals of the deities. Devotees and pilgrims will get the divine opportunity to have darshan of the Lords on their chariots during the Bahuda Yatra. Hence, we humbly request all devotees to consider this restriction on Sandhya Darshan as a part of their service to Mahaprabhu and kind cooperation is highly solicited”, read the statement issued by the SJTA.
