Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was informed today that there is no specific deadline for completing the e-KYC process for the ration card, and it is not mandatory to finish it within a stipulated timeframe.
In response to a question from Congress MLA Ashok Kumar Das, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, in the absence of Food Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, stated that beneficiaries who have applied for ration cards in the past month will receive new cards after undergoing e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) verification.
Congress’ Cuttack-Barabati MLA Sofia Firdous highlighted that around 10 lakh people are awaiting ration cards after applying, prompting a response from the Minister.
The Minister replied that the government has emphasized that e-KYC verification is a sensitive matter. The government has appealed to the citizens to complete the process as soon as possible. This move is part of efforts to rectify discrepancies in the ration card system, eliminate ghost entries, and ensure assistance reaches only genuine beneficiaries.
The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister was absent during the Assembly proceedings, and Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj provided the update on behalf of the government.
