No Threat To Odisha, Security Tightened Following Delhi Blast: Law Minister

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is safe and there is no immediate threat to the state following the deadly car blast in Delhi, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said on Tuesday. However, security measures across Odisha have been strengthened as a precautionary step.

“Some conspirators are attempting to undermine India’s integrity through violent acts. While Odisha faces no direct threat, the police and administration are on high alert to ensure the safety of citizens and public places, including the Puri Jagannath temple,” Minister Harichandan said while speaking to the media.

He added that a high-level review meeting was held late Monday night at the State Police Headquarters in Cuttack, chaired by DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, to assess security arrangements across the state.

“Security has been enhanced at all railway stations, airports, tourist attractions, and monuments. District administrations have been instructed to intensify checks. Odisha remains safe, and we are prepared to handle any eventuality,” the Law Minister said.

The Delhi car explosion occurred at around 6.52 pm near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort. A Hyundai i20, reportedly stopped at a red light, suddenly exploded, completely destroying the vehicle and causing fires in nearby cars. At least 10 people were killed, and more than two dozen were injured. Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha confirmed that the vehicle had occupants at the time of the blast.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah identified the car involved, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators.

“Indian agencies will conduct a thorough investigation and hold those responsible accountable,” he said.
