Bhubaneswar: Normal life was disrupted in Titilagarh of Balangir district in Odisha on Thursday owing to a 12-hour bandh call given by the Zilla Kriyanusthan Committee in support of creating a separate district for the region. The bandh call has been supported by major political parties, trade unions, and social organisations.
While all government and private offices, educational institutions, banks and financial institutions, shops, and markets remained closed in Titilagarh town, the roads wore a deserted look due to the dawn-to-dusk strike. Bandh supporters organised picketing on the main roads and important traffic crossings with posters, banners, and placards.
Numerous vehicles were stranded on both sides of the state highway passing through the town, while public transport vehicles were off the road today creating problems for commuters.
According to Zilla Kriyanusthan Committee president Krushna Chandra Sahu, Titilagarh town meets all criteria needed to get a district status. “We have been demanding district status for Titilagarh for several years but our demands are being ignored. We will continue our protest till our demand is fulfilled,” he said.
