Cuttack: A notorious antisocial Shankar alias Deepak Nayak was nabbed by a team of the Special Squad of the Cuttack Urban Police District (UPD) following an encounter. The police seized a pistol with ammunition from his possession.
According to the police, acting on a tip-off, a team of the Special Squad of Cuttack UPD and Bidansi police intercepted Shankar of Ranihat Gopalsahi at Bhuasunigada today at around 8.30 PM.
Instead of stopping, Shankar challenged and opened fire at the police team in Bhuasunipadia with the intention to kill its members, police said.
Police have claimed that the police team exercising its right to private defence opened controlled fire and immobilized him. Police they have seized a pistol with ammunition from his possession.
In the process, Shankar sustained a bullet injury on his left leg, police said adding that he has been shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital.
