Balasore: Simulia police, in collaboration with Basudevpur police, have cracked down on a burglary gang, arresting six of its members.
The arrests were made following a complaint by family members of a local Anganwadi worker Sukanti Sahu, who was attacked by burglars on the night of February 15. The burglars reportedly decamped with valuables from her house after attacking her at Bari village under Simulia police station.
Following the incident, Eastern Range DIG Satyajit Naik formed a police team and arrested two youths involved in the burglary case during a raid. Further investigation revealed that the same gang was involved in a temple loot incident in Kanheibindha village, where four more youths were arrested.
The arrested looters, reportedly from Semulia, were found to be involved in various loot incidents in Basudevpur, Bhadrak, Simulia, and Soro areas. A large cache of stolen items, including over Rs 4,000 in cash, iron rods, a knife, four silver crowns, and a brass pitcher, were seized from their possession, said police.
