Bhubaneswar: The Southwest Monsoon is inching towards Odisha after covering most southern states with heavy seasonal rain. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is expected to cover parts of Odisha over the next three to four days.
Southwest Monsoon reached Odisha’s Malkangiri district on June 8 but could not advance further due to unfavourable weather conditions. As a result, the monsoon did not get the strength to continue from Malkangiri district. However, the Southwest Monsoon touched parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana on Wednesday. The regional center of the IMD in Bhubaneswar has informed that the weather will remain unfavorable for the next 3 to 4 days and some areas of Odisha resulting in hot and humid weather conditions.
According to the weather office forecast, Bolangir, Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Mayurbhanj will experience heatwave conditions, while the weather in coastal Odisha will be hot and humid.
Intermittent heavy rains with gusts of 30 to 40 km per hour may occur in northern and interior Odisha. The weather conditions are likely to change from June 15 as several places in Odisha will receive rain. The effect of the seasonal rains will lead to decreasing temperatures and heavy rain may occur in some places of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, and Kalahandi districts on June 16.
The weather office has predicted that rain will continue in most parts of Odisha from June 17.
