Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow warnings for several Odisha districts, predicting thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in the next three hours.
As per the nowcast warning issued by IMD at 1:45pm, a total of nine districts will be affected by the inclement weather conditions. Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, and Gajapati are under an orange alert while Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak are under a yellow alert.
Districts under orange alert are likely to experience moderate thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, lightning, and light to moderate rain, which may cause minor damage to loose or unsecured structures, banana trees, and standing crops.
On the other hand, districts under yellow alert are likely to experience light to moderate thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph, lightning, and light to moderate rain.
Residents in the affected districts are advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
