NRC-Like Document Needed To Check Infiltration: Assam CM Biswa Sarma In Puri

Bhubaneswar: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has emphasized the need for a nationwide document, similar to the National Register of Citizens (NRC), to distinguish between Indian citizens and infiltrators.

Speaking to reporters after offering prayers at Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, Biswa Sarma stated that the Assam government has decided to make NRC registration mandatory for obtaining an Aadhaar card, with applicants’ names not featured in the NRC being ineligible for the card.

“I desire that NRC-type documents should be prepared so that we can easily differentiate who are Indians and who are infiltrators,” Sarma said.

Sarma also highlighted the challenges in securing the Bangladesh boundary in Assam and West Bengal due to the presence of rivers, but expressed confidence in using technology to address this issue.

He noted that while the Indian government has introduced technological interventions in Assam and Tripura, the West Bengal government has not been fully cooperative.

Additionally, Sarma condemned the alleged attacks on the Hindu community in Bangladesh, expressing hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would take diplomatic action to protect the minority. He also criticized the Congress party for not standing with the Hindu community in the past.

In other remarks, Sarma advocated for the ‘one nation, one election’ system, citing the disruption of developmental works during elections in Assam. He expressed confidence that Prime Minister Modi would implement this system by amending the Constitution.
