**Bhubaneswar:** The National Students Union of India (NSUI), the students’ wing of Indian National Congress staged a bike rally in protest against the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government regarding the Kandhamal crossfire issue.
The rally started from Master Canteen till Sishu Bhawan, near Naveen Niwas.
The protesters burnt a huge effigy of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the form of Hindu mythological demon, ‘Ravana’, terming the ruling party as party led by ‘Ravana’.
“We have demanded the arrest Amitav Thakur, IG Southern Range, as soon as possible.There should be stringent action against the culprits involved in the death of the five innocent tribals of Kandhamal. Moreover, the families of the deceased should be given a compensation of Rs.25 lakhs each,” said Itish Pradhan, NSUI President.
Police had made prior arrangements at Sishu Bhawan Chhak to control the protesters, but the youth broke the barricades. But the protesters became unruly and broke through the barricades put up by the police.
“We have arrested around 100 persons including the NSUI President, Itish Pradhan after they broke across the barricades”, said Satyabrata Bhoi, DCP, Bhubaneswar.
