Bhubaneswar: National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) activists today hurled tomatoes at the official residence of Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo.
Members of NSUI, the student’s wing of the Congress party gheraoed the Minister’s residence and hurled tomatoes at it opposing restrictions on self-financing courses in public universities by the Higher Education Department.
While the agitators attempted to barge into Sahoo’s residence, they were prevented by the policemen.
The NSUI activists alleged that restrictions on self-financing courses in public universities will deprive poor and meritorious students of getting admission to professional courses.
On the other hand, private educational institutions would profit by running the same courses by charging higher fees, the activists further alleged.
The agitators demanded Sahoo’s resignation on moral grounds.
