Bhubaneswar: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Indian National Congress, has suspended its Odisha Unit chief Udit Pradhan after he was arrested on charges of sexual assault.

The National President of NSUI issued a public statement regarding the suspension.”In view of recent developments, the NSUI Odisha State President has been suspended with immediate effect, pending investigation,” the statement read.

NSUI maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward gender-based injustice and is unwavering in its commitment to accountability and justice. Meanwhile, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) formed a six-member committee headed by Sasmita Behera to investigate the matter and submit a report to the OPCC.

The Commissionerate Police arrested Pradhan on charges of sexually assaulting a female student. Based on the victim’s complaint, case 419/25 was registered at the Mancheswar Police Station in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

As per the complainant, the accused Pradhan took her to a hotel along with her friends on the pretext of going on an outing. The accused allegedly intoxicated the victim by mixing a substance in her drink before committing the assault in the hotel. The incident allegedly occurred on March 25, 2025. Despite the delay in reporting the crime, the police acted quickly on the complaint.
