Nuapada: Additional District & Sessions Court, Nuapada on Friday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of his minor nephew in what was determined to be a human sacrifice linked to black magic practices.
The Court pronounced the sentence after a detailed trial and examination of evidence.
The verdict was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar Das after a detailed trial and examination of evidence.
The convict, Chintamani Majhi, a resident of Jadamunda village under Komna police limits, was found guilty of beheading his nephew, Dhansingh Majhi, on August 8, 2019.
According to the case details, Chintamani lured the boy to their farmland under the pretext of cutting down a tree. Unbeknownst to the child, Chintamani had earlier performed occult rituals and prepared the site for what he believed would be a sacrifice to ensure a prosperous harvest.
As the unsuspecting minor began chopping the tree, Chintamani attacked him from behind with a sharp weapon, brutally beheading him on the spot.
Following the incident, Komna police arrested Chintamani and registered a case against him.
After years of trial proceedings, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him of the heinous crime.
Additional Public Prosecutor Kartikeswar Maharana confirmed that the sentencing followed a thorough examination of testimonies and forensic details.
