Nuapada: A 33-year-old farmer in Nuapada district attempted suicide today by consuming pesticide in his field after allegedly failing to sell his paddy at the mandi.
The farmer identified as Romanchan Dandsena of Dhingiamunda village in Kendumunda gram panchayat under Sinapalli block in Nuapada district who was found by his family members in a critical condition in his farmland after consuming poison was initially rushed to the Primary Health Centre at Saradhapur and was shifted to Khariar Sub-Divisional Hospital after being provided with first aid.
Later as his condition deteriorated he has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital here.
According to reports, 85 bags of paddy belonging to Romanchan are lying at Kendumunda mandi. He failed to sell his paddy as the validity of the token issued to him for selling his paddy at the mandi had expired. The token issued to him was valid from January 17 to February 17.
His wife Krushna Dandsena has said that her husband on losing the balance of his mind attempted suicide as the validity of his token had elapsed.
