Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Nursing Employees Association (ONEA) withdrew the cease-work agitation following a fruitful discussion over their demands with Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling at Lok Seva Bhavan.

The nursing officers will resume duty at 11.30 at al government-run hospitals and medical colleges across Odisha, Association General Secretary Aswini Kumar Das said.

“The decision was taken unanimously at the general body meeting of the association. The office bearers of the association held a meeting with the members through video conference after the meeting with the Health Minister. All the members agreed to join duty and wait for the government’s action,” said Das.

Minister Mukesh Mahaling said that the nurses agreed to call off their strike.

The discussion was held in an amicable manner. I appealed to the association to resume duty. The government is well aware of their demands. The government will look into the matter very soon,” the minister said.

The healthcare services across Odisha were disrupted due to the agitation by over 15,000 nursing officials in several State-run health centres and medical colleges. They took to the streets demanding 10-point charter of demands including the regularisation of contractual workers.
